Talk for Writing - Using Artefacts to create Stories and Poems

The inspirational, charismatic and creative Literacy educator Pie Corbett will explore with delegates developing Literacy Art and Artefacts.

10.00am - Registration and refreshments

10.30 - 10.45am - Welcome by Eddie Burnett, Director of Jubileebooks.co.uk Ltd.

10.45 - Session 1: Playing creative games and writing poetry - learning to generate and craft creative writing. Interpreting images and artefacts.

11.40am - 11.55am - Break 

12.00 - 13.00pm - Session 2: Developing storytelling through art and objects by suing objects and art as well as historical evidence.

13.00 - 13.25pm - Talk by Anna Salaman, Head of Formal Learning at NMM about the collections and it's work and engagment wih schools.

13.15 - 14.30pm - Lunch and opportunity to look at the National Maritime Museums Collection and artefacts.

Prompt start 14.30 - 14.45pm - Session 3: Talk by Sue McGonigal CLPE Power of Reading Project, How to work from images and artefacts, moving from telling into writing, crafting stories through shared writing, creating a theme based approach, e.g. 'pirates'.

15.30 - 16.30pm - Performance: TBC Berlie Doherty author of Street Child, Daughter of the Sea, The Sailing Ship Tree and Treason. Or John Agard, prize winning poet, former poet in residence at NMM and last year's recipient of Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
