Mastering the Rhythms of Writing
Venue: Coin Street Conference Centre South Bank Rooms, Waterloo London
Date: Wednesday 1st Feb.
  • This conference will be led by Pie Corbett, supported by Ollie Tunmer . The day will begin by exploring how to draw upon reading great literature and use it to develop writing through shared writing
  • The conference will also work on the links between art and writing, poetry performance and storytelling. For part of the day, Pie will work with Ollie from 'Beat Goes On'. Ollie (you may have seen him perform on stage in STOMP) will be exploring how to use body percussion to emphasise the grammatical rhythms and meaning of poetry and story. Pie and Ollie have worked together before and this day will prove to be both an exciting and innovative approach to using the arts as part of teaching writing.

9.00-9.40 - Registration and refreshments
9.40-9.45 - Welcome by Eddie Burnett Director of Jubilee Books and Pie Corbett
9.45 -10.40 - Pie Corbett Session 1 - From storytelling into writing
10.40-11.00 - Break
 
11.15-12.30 - Pie Corbett Session 2 - Poetry writing - learning to observe and play with language.
12.30-14.00 - Lunch and opportunity to look view a Core children’s literature
14.00-14.15 - Talk by Louise Johns-Shepherd CEO CLPE
Power Of Reading Project: promoting enjoyment and achievement. This successful national project raises achievement by engaging teachers and children in the literacy curriculum through using high quality books and creative teaching approaches
14.15-15.15 - Pie Corbett and Ollie : , Pie will work with Ollie from 'Beat Goes On'.
